3 Easy Healthy Alternatives

In my opinion, it's really challenging to eat healthy consistently. During my first 3 years of college I ate nachos, burgers, fries, ice cream, and pretty much anything that was not good for my body. I didn't really realize the impact of these food choices. Now that I understand the implications of eating poorly, I'm much more cognizant of what I choose to eat. At the same time, I do have a tendency to lack self control. My roommate and I ate a whole bag of ruffles with sour cream dip just the other night. Fortunately, my roommate and I have found some healthy substitutes!  

1. Use Greek Yogurt or Lowfat/Fat Free Yogurt instead of Sour Cream
It's quite remarkable how uncannily similar the two can taste, but yogurt is far healthier than sour cream. There is typically less fat and calories.  

2. Bake with Applesauce instead of Oil

3. Add Honey to Coffee instead of Sugar

There is nothing better to perk you up in the morning than a warm cup of coffee. Coffee has been shown to have a number of benefits including boosting your metabolism and lowering your risks of Type II Diabetes. Whenever I was little, I would jump at the sight of drinking coffee with my mother. She always put in whole spoonfuls of sugar and loaded the cup with half and half. Despite the benefits of coffee, the coffee she prepared was not healthy and I continued to drink coffee as I grew up. I've recently switched from drinking coffee with a lot of creamer and sugar to drinking coffee with honey. Honey is far more natural when compared to sugar that has been processed and refined to the point where many of the natural nutrients that sugar inherently has is lost in the process of production.
